PURPOSE: To provide a lightweight hand tool non-sparking, non-magnetic, and excellent in corrosion resistance, which is substantially made of a non-conductive material as the whole.
CONSTITUTION: A composite, non-electrically conductive, non-sparking, non- magnetic and lightweight cutter/plier hand tool 20 has two lever parts 21, 21A mutually connected on a support shaft, each consisting of unitary, one-piece construction and formed by compression molding of multiple plies of a discontinuous random glass fiber-reinforced plastic sheet molding compound. Fixed to the respective jaws 30 and 30A of the lever parts 21, 21A are ceramic insert parts 40, 40A made of transformation toughened zirconia, formed by dry compression and then sintering of a powdery ceramic material. Each insert part has a serrated grip part 44 and a cutting part 46, and one cutting surface provided on the insert part operates with the opposed cutting surface to provide shearing effect. Three versions of the insert parts are disclosed.
