To provide a novel composition for contact lenses using highly safe materials for human body, which may successfully improve wearing comfort of contact lenses by exerting lipid cleaning action, lipid adhesion suppression action, and friction reduction action.

A composition for contact lenses includes a hypromellose having a viscosity of 5.1 mPa s or less in an aqueous solution of 2 w/w% at 20°C at a concentration of 0.5-1.5 w/v% and a polyvinyl alcohol having a viscosity of 10-35 mPa s in an aqueous solution of 4 w/w% at 20°C at a concentration of 0.8-2 w/v%, which has a kinematic viscosity of 3.0-8.0 mm²/s at 20°C.
