PURPOSE: To provide a composition which enables surprising improvement in intake valve deposit control.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a fuel additive and a fuel additive composition comprising (i) at least one fuel-soluble detergent/dispersant which is (a) a fuel- soluble salt, amide, imide, oxazoline or ester, of a long chain aliphatic hydrocarbon-substituted dicarboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof, or a mixture thereof, (b) a long chain aliphatic hydrocarbon with a polyamine directly attached thereto and/or (c) a Mannich condensation product formed by condensation of a long chain aliphatic hydrocarbon-substituted phenol with an aldehyde and an amine, wherein the long chain aliphatic hydrocarbon in (a), (b) and (c) is at least one polymer, having a number average mol.wt. of at least 300, of a 2-10C monoolefin, (ii) a fuel-soluble cyclopentadienyl complex of a transition metal and (iii) a fuel-soluble liquid carrier or an additive induction aid.
