To provide a composition for forming a hydrophilic membrane which gives a surface hydrophilic layer having excellent hydrophilicity, good durability and excellent transparency and storage stability, and to provide a hydrophilic member provided with the hydrophilic membrane on a substrate surface and having excellent surface hydrophilicity and excellent durability.
The composition for forming a hydrophilic membrane contains (A) a nitrogen-containing compound containing at least one silane-coupling group in the molecule and having a molecular weight of 1,000, (B) an alkoxide compound containing an element selected from Si, Ti and Al and (C) a hydrophilic polymer having a silane-coupling group on the polymer terminal. The hydrophilic member is produced by applying the composition for forming a hydrophilic membrane to a substrate.
