Abstract:

To provide a method for increasing the circulation time and storage time of a platelet.

The present invention provides modified platelets having a reduced platelet clearance and a method for reducing a platelet clearance. Specifically, a platelet population having a surface modified with a specific glycan residue is produced. When the platelet population is transfused into a mammal, circulation time is at least as long as unmodified platelets. Further, the present invention provides a composition for the preservation of the platelet population, a pharmaceutical composition, and a method for administering the pharmaceutical composition to a mammal to mediate hemostasis.
