PURPOSE: To obtain the subject raw material for an oxide superconductor capable of producing an oxide superconductor having a high critical temperature and an improved critical current density by calcining and crushing a mixture raw material containing Bi, Pb, Sr, Ba, Ca and Cu in a specified atomic ratio.
CONSTITUTION: Raw materials such as bismuth trioxide, lead monoxide, strontium carbonate, barium carbonate, calcium carbonate and cupric oxide are weighed and mixed so that the atomic ratio of (Bi:Pb:Sr:Ba:Ca:Cu) may be (1.3-2.2):(0.2-0.8):(1.4-2.2):(A):(1.6-2.4):(2.8-3.2) (provided that A≤0.6; 2≤Bi/Pb≤9.6; 1.7≤Bi+Pb≤2.6, Sr+Ba≤2.2). The resultant mixture raw material is then calcined and crushed to obtain the raw material for an oxide superconductor. By burning the obtained raw material for an oxide superconductor, an oxide superconductor containing a large amount of a high temperature phase showing a critical temperature in the vicinity of 110K can be obtained.
