To obtain a composition, capable of sufficiently manifesting efficacies essentially possessed by an active oxygen scavenger and useful for a cosmetic and a medicine, etc., for external use excellent in preventing effects on skin aging and reducing effects on skin roughening by using the active oxygen scavenger with a specific glycoside in combination.
This composition is obtained by formulating a lignan glycoside with an active oxygen scavenger in combination. A compound represented by formula I [R is a glycosyl composed of one to four saccharides, which are one or more selected from glucose, galactose and fructose; (n) is 0 or 1], especially a compound represented by formula II (Glc is the glycosyl) or formula III or IV is preferred as the lignan glycoside. A superoxide dismutase, a catalase, mannitol, hydroquinone, catechin, gallic acid, etc., are cited as the active oxygen scavenger. The amount of the formulated lignan glycoside is 0.001-5 wt.% in the case of, e.g. the compound represented by formula I to IV and that of the active oxygen scavenger is 0.0001-5 wt.%.
