Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for the diagnosis and treatment of neoplastic cell growth and proliferation in mammals, including humans.SOLUTION: The present invention concerns an isolated antibody that binds to the ADAM8 polypeptide. In the genome of tumor cells, the ADAM8 gene is associated with the overexpression of the gene product as compared to normal cells of the same tissue type, and contributes to tumorigenesis. Accordingly, the antibody targeting the ADAM8 protein encoded by the amplified gene is useful for the diagnosis and/or treatment (including prevention) of certain cancers. The antibody is a monoclonal antibody, and includes the non-human complementarity determining region (CDR) or the human framework region.
