NEW MATERIAL:A compound having heterocyclic group condensed with pyrrolidine ring expressed by formula I [Ring A is heterocycle expressed by formula II to formula V (R is lower alkyl), forming the heterocycle together with N on pyrrolidine ring to which said ring A condenses and with C neighboring to said N].
EXAMPLE: Dihydropyrrolo[2,1-c][oxazole-3,5(1H,6H)dione.
USE: Useful as an intellectualization agent having effect on acceleration of study or increasing resistance of brain against stress such as hypoxia, especially stimulation of brain metabolism in senile patients, etc.
PREPARATION: An L-pyrroglutamic acid expressed by formula VI is subjected to esterification and successive reducing means to obtain 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2- pyrrolidine expressed by formula VII. Then the compound is allowed to react with phosgene or trichloromethyl chloroformate in the presence of an acid- binding agent.
