Abstract:

To provide a machine tool which includes both functions of a lathe and a machining center, and allows cutting and machining of a wide plane with a large-sized rotary tool and heavy-duty cutting, and develops a machining program including tool change for two workpieces.

A tool main spindle 51 is provided the traveling positions of which are controlled in 3-axis directions orthogonal to each other, and which is turnable around an axis (third direction, Y-axis) in the longitudinal direction to an operator, and rotates around an axis parallel to a face orthogonal to the axis in the third direction. The same structure as that of a conventional two-main spindle opposed lathe is provided as a workpiece retention part. At least one capstan rest 8 is disposed below the work axial line. Tool magazines 71R, 71L and tool changers 72R, 72L are arranged substantially above two workpiece main spindles 61R, 61L on both sides of the one tool main spindle 51.
