Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To be able to achieve stable operation by providing nitrogen oxides that promote auto-ignition, or ozone which reacts with the air and generates nitrogen oxides in the combustion chamber in a compression auto-ignition engine which auto-ignites and burns instantaneously in the combustion chamber.
SOLUTION: During operation of an engine 10, the cylinder pressure in the engine 10 is detected by a pressure sensor P1. The timing of the auto-ignition is calculated in a control unit 26 based on the detected pressure, and it is determined whether or not the calculated auto-ignition timing is correct. Here, if the self-ignition timing is fast relative to the correct timing, the opening of an open/close valve V1 closes and the atmosphere of the combustion chamber BS should shift to one that makes auto-ignition difficult, reducing the supplied amount of NOx or ozone. On the other hand, if the auto-ignition timing is late relative to the correct timing, the opening of the open/close valve V1 widens so as to increase the amount of NOx or ozone generated. As a result, stable operation of a compression auto-ignition engine is ensured.
