Abstract:

To control ignition timing more suitably in a compression ignition internal combustion engine.

The device is provided with: NO2supply means 7, 9 supplying NO2into a cylinder; and a discrimination means 20 discriminating whether an ignition acceleration condition accelerating ignition of fuel in a cylinder is satisfied. When the discrimination means 20 judges that the ignition acceleration condition is satisfied, NO2is supplied into the cylinder by the NO2supply means 7, 9. Ignition property of the internal combustion engine 1 is thereby increased, and ignition of fuel is accelerated.
