Abstract:
To hardly accumulate soot on a piston crown surface.SOLUTION: A cylinder block 1, a cylinder head 2, and a piston 3 define a combustion chamber 4. An opening part of an intake port 5 is located on one side across the center axis of the combustion chamber 4, and an opening part of an exhaust port 6 is located on the other side. On a piston crown surface 3a, a heat insulating material layer 20 is formed. The thermal capacity of a facing site 6a (a region X2 including the facing site 6a) facing the opening part of the exhaust port 6, out of the heat insulating material layer 20, is set to be higher than the thermal capacity of a facing site 5a (a region X1 including the facing site 5a) facing the opening part of the intake port 5. A difference of the thermal capacity causes the temperature of the facing site 6a (the region X2) to be higher than the temperature of the facing site 5a (the region X1), resulting in soot to be hardly adhered. The difference of the thermal capacity can be made by changing the thickness of the heat insulating material layer 20, for example.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
