To provide a compression ignition internal combustion engine capable of easily coping with demand load in a wide scope by single fuel and to provide its control method.
This compression ignition internal combustion engine is provided with a first tank 1 for storing mixed fuel A, a water tank 2 for storing water B, a second tank 3 for storing mixed liquid C and liquid hydrocarbon D in a condition in which they are separated from each other, a third tank 4 for storing the liquid hydrocarbon D, and a fourth tank 5 for storing the mixed liquid C. This internal combustion engine is provided with a first pump 13 for supplying the mixed fuel A into the tank 3, a second pump 18 for supplying the water B into the tank 3, a third pump 22 for extracting the liquid hydrocarbon D and supplying it into the tank 4, and a fourth pump 25 for extracting the mixed liquid C and supplying it into the tank 5. The tanks 1 to 5 are provided with liquid level detection means 15a, 15b, 20a, 20b, 29a, 29b, 29c, 35a, 35b, 40a, 40b. The tank 3 is provided with a separation detection means 30. When demand load is low, amount of supply of the liquid hydrocarbon D is increased, and when demand load is high, amount of supply of the mixed liquid C is increased.
