To provide a compressor capable of controlling a capacity in a step- by-step manner and performing economical operation for saving energy and to provide a freezer using the compressor.
In this freezer, a hydraulic screw compressor 2, an oil separating collector, a condenser 5, an expansion valve 6, and an evaporator 7 are arranged in a closed refrigerant flow passage 13. A capacity of the refrigerant compressed by the hydraulic screw compressor 2 can be changed step by step according to a plurality of adjustable set values. A detection means detecting an operation condition of the evaporator 7 is arranged in the evaporator 7. The freezer is provided with a control means 11 controlling the capacity of the hydraulic screw compressor 2 step by step on the basis of the operation condition of the evaporator 7 detected by the detection means.
