To provide a variable stator blade capable of suppressing limitation in clearance with a neighboring blade while reducing stress concentration to a connecting portion of a shaft part and a blade part, and to provide a compressor employing the variable stator blade.

A compressor includes: a rotor having a plurality of stages of rotor blade lines; a casing surrounding the rotor; and a plurality of stages of stator blade lines mounted inside of the casing. A variable stator blade 4a constituting the initial stage of the stator blade lines is characterized in that, for a shaft part 8 inserted to the casing, a blade part 7 facing a gas flow path and a platform part 9 interposed between the shaft part 8 and the blade part 7 and covering an overall end face of the blade part 7 at a side of a blade root portion, a dimension (a) taken in a cord length direction of the end face is longer than a dimension (b) taken in a thickness direction thereof.
