To generate a computer hologram and a holographic stereogram which allow a three-dimensional object to be reproduced, by giving surface data to even arbitrary cross-sectional portions of the three-dimensional object consisting of only surface data to make the cross sections visible.
A method of generating a holographic stereogram includes; a step ST11 of acquiring many two-dimensional cross sectional image data of the three-dimensional object; a step ST12 of generating three-dimensional object image data, consisting of only surface data of the three-dimensional object, from the many two-dimensional cross sectional image data; a step ST13 of cutting the three-dimensional object, consisting of only surface data with a prescribed cross section; a step ST14 of giving surface data representative of the cut out section to the cut cross section, to define a shape of the three-dimensional object to be recorded as a hologram; steps ST15 to ST17 of defining arrangement of the defined three-dimensional object, a hologram surface, and reference light, to obtain interference fringes on the hologram surface; and steps ST18 to ST20 of recording the obtained interference fringes on a recording medium.
