PURPOSE: To attain cursor movement and an input operation and to miniaturize the computer input device by attaching an encoder part to a case together with an input switch and operating a ball in the encoder part and the input switch with different fingers of the same one hand.
CONSTITUTION: When the case 17 is held by one hand so as to be lapped and the rotation of the ball 2 and the operation of the input switch 20 are executed by its fingers, one or both of the conversion output axes 3, 4 of X and Y axis directions are rotated. In this case, both optical fibers are rotated. Optical fiber detectors 12 to 15 detect reflected light from respective light reflecting parts 9 attending on the light projection. In this case, the positions of the light reflecting parts 9 and light absorbing parts 10 formed on both the sides of respective output axes 3, 4 are shifted in a circumferential direction. Thereby, the rotational directions and moving distances of the output axes 3, 4, i.e. the X and Y axes of the ball 2 can be detected by comparing the phases of two signals, and when the data of the moving amount are inputted to a computer, the cursor can be moved on a display part.
