PURPOSE: To obtain satd. ketone in high selectivity and conversion rate by allowing a primary and secondary ketone to contact with specific non-zeolitic molecular sieve and hydrogenation catalyst in the presence of hydrogen.
CONSTITUTION: By using non-zeolitic moleculer sieve which adsorbs isobutane of ≥2 wt.%, preferably ≥4 wt.% under 500 Torr partial pressure at 20°C in calcined form as catalyst, satd. ketone is obtd. by allowing a primary and a secondary ketone to contact with this catalyst and hydrogenation catalyst capable of hydrogenation of ethylenic unsatd. bond of the ethylenically unsatd. ketone. As moleculer sieve above mentioned, silicoaluminophosphate-moleculer sieve (for example, SAPO-5), etc., is used. This process is useful for production of methylisobutylketone or diisobutylketone by self-condensation of acetone.
