PURPOSE: To impart conductivity to a polymer material, by treating the material with polymers of an epihalohydrin and either one of monomers represented by specified formulas or a polymer thereof, followed by treatment with a cupric salt and a sulfur-containing reduing agent.
CONSTITUTION: A reactional product of an epihalohydrin with each of monomers represented by formula I (wherein R1 is H, CH3, C2H5, C3H7 or C4H9) formula II [wherein R2 is H or CH3, R2 and R3 are each H, CH3, C2H5 or C4H9; and Z is COO(CH2)n, CONH(CH2)n or CO; and (n) is 1 to 3] and formula III (wherein A is a group of formula IV, CH2NH2, a group of formula V or a group of formula VI), such as diallyamine, acrylamide and vinyl pyridine, is polymerized. A reactional product of an epihalohydrin with a polymer of each monomer, such as polyethylenimine, is also polymerized. A natural or synthetic polymer material is immersed in an aqueous alkaline solution of at least one of the obtained polymers or a mixture thereof and then immersed in an aqueous inorganic solution of a cupric salt, such as CuSO4, and in an aqueous solution of a sulfur-containing reducing agent comprising, e.g. Na2S2O3, thus giving the objective conductive polymer material.
