PURPOSE: To temporarily lock a connecting member by bearing a tightening screw within a cup-shaped insert with a play, and forming an inclined abutting portion for the tightening screw at the front edge of the connecting member.

CONSTITUTION: This connecting member comprises a cup-shaped insert 1, a tightening screw 2, and a connecting element 3. The cup-shaped insert 1 has barb-like slots 4 formed on the outer periphery thereof and serves as a means for holding a plate into a bore hole. The connecting element 3 has a hole 6 formed in the rear end 5 thereof and serves as a means for mounting on the plate. A front end 7 is pushed into a slit 8 parallel to the central axis of the cup-shaped insert 1, and a rectangular recess 9 and a stopper projection 10 at the rear end thereof are provided. Also, an inclined abutting portion 20 is provided at a front edge 19. The tightening screw 2 is borne in the cup-shaped insert 1 by a square nut 14 at an angle of 45° to the direction of insertion of the connecting element 3 with a slight play. The play permits the tightening screw 2 to be pushed back by the inclined abutting portion 20 during insertion of the connecting element 3 and be positioned at a forward inner edge 17.
