The connecting rod 1 for an internal combustion engine includes a small end 2 rotatably coupled to a piston via a piston pin 5, a large end 3 rotatably coupled to the crank pin of a crankshaft, and a rod 4 for connecting the small end 2 and the large end 3. A center line connecting the small end center of the center line L1 of the connecting rod 1 and the crankshaft center is set as a reference line, and the rod 4 includes a first rib 15 located near the reference line and a second rib 16 located farther from the reference line than the first rib during the combustion stroke of a cylinder to which the connecting rod is assembled. The sectional area of a part of the first rib is larger than the sectional area of the second rib.
