To restrain the deformation of a connecting rod body due to tensile load applied thereto during the operation of an engine and to avoid increase in weight and lowering of breaking and separating property.
This connecting rod 1 includes: a large end part 2 having a bearing hole 2a for rotatably supporting a crank pin 6; a small end part 3 having a bearing hole 3a for rotatably supporting a piston pin 8; and a rod part 4 connecting the large end part 2 and the small end part 3 to each other. The connecting rod body 11 and the cap 12 are broken to be separated along a breaking and separating surface 10 extending over both sides of the large end part 2. The connecting rod body 11 and the cap 12 are joined to each other at the breaking and separating surface 10 and fastened by a bolt 18. The side part of the connecting rod body 11 is provided with a projecting part 20 formed to project outward over the side 13 of the cap 12.
