Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide connectors for charging of an electric vehicle which enables protection of contacts of the connectors even when the connectors are disengaged carelessly in a state of charging and a controlling method of charging thereof.
SOLUTION: A charging line 38 connecting a charging power source 36 with a charging circuit 50 is provided with a relay 48, and this is controlled to open or close on the basis of the operation of a locking mechanism for holding a connector for charging and a connector on the vehicle side in a coupled state. In the case when locking of the locking mechanism is canceled while the two connectors are still alive, this state is detected by a phototransistor 30 (locking operation detecting means), the relay 48 on the electric vehicle side opens and the two connectors become disconnected. As a result, an arc is prevent from being generated between contacts of the two connectors when they are disengaged from each other, and thus the contacts are surely protected.
