To provide an appratus and a method for electrical connection of conductor wires between two coupled railway cars.

The electrical connection is executed between the coupled railway cars by means of a connector 5 engaged with an industry standard brake line air hose connector. The electrical contacts may be imbedded in two joined mating surfaces 10 or a module mounted on the industry standard connector. A valve which admits air to the air hose connector after it is joined to another connector, actuates a switch. The switch completes electrical circuits when the air valve is opened. In a case where end to end reversal of a railway car causes the interchange of circuits, a compensating switch is provided.
