A terminal metal 30 is allowed to be inserted to a housing 10 under the condition that the retainer 40 assembled to the housing 10 is at a temporary locking position, and when the retainer 40 is moved from the temporary locking position to a permanent locking position, the retainer keeps the terminal metal 30 free from being pulled-out. Temporary locking means 50F and 50R restrict free movement of the retainer 40 from the temporary locking position to the permanent locking position, and permanent locking means 51F and 51R restrict free movement of the retainer 40 from the permanent locking position to the temporary locking position. Since the two sets of the means are provided respectively, the reliability of the temporary locking function and permanent locking function is enhanced, compared with only one set for each of the temporary locking means and the permanent locking means.
