Abstract:
PURPOSE: To see that it shows constant voltage property to optional certain high-voltage in case that high voltage is applied, by constituting it of a part, which takes partial charge of specified high voltage, and a part, where the resistance drops remarkably at low voltage when it reaches the specified voltage.
CONSTITUTION: When reverse voltage is raised, the depletion layer of pn junction J1 spreads, and the depletion layer spreading from the pn junction j1 to the side of a p-type semiconductor layer 15 contacts with the depletion layer which were existing in pn junction J2 in heat valanced condition. Hereby, the electric field strength of the pn junction J2 consisting of an n-type semiconductor 17 and the p+-type semiconductor layer 15 drops to almost zero, but the electric field strength E3 at the pn junction J2 consisting of the n+-type semiconductor layer 17 and a p+-type semiconductor layer 16 becomes high. If this electric field strength E3 becomes above the maximum strength Emax where it causes Zener breakdown or avalanche breakdown, it causes breakdown, so reverse voltage above this can not be applied. That is, the application voltage can be maintained at a certain high voltage.
