PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a contaminant from leaking into a second water-bearing layer when constructing an earth retaining wall surrounding an excavation area in a manner that penetrates a first water-bearing layer containing contaminated soil and an impermeable layer beneath the first water-bearing layer and reaches the second water-bearing layer beneath the impermeable layer.SOLUTION: A construction method is to construct an earth retaining wall 1 surrounding an excavation area 7 in a manner that penetrates a first water-bearing layer 2 containing contaminated soil 6 and a first impermeable layer 3 beneath the first water-bearing layer 2 and reaches a second water-bearing layer 4 beneath the first impermeable layer 3. The construction method comprises the processes to: construct an impervious wall-like body 10 after removing the contaminated soil 6 by excavating an area including the contaminated soil 6 in the first water-bearing layer 2 and a construction area of the earth retaining wall 1; and construct the earth retaining wall 1 in a manner that penetrates the wall-like body 10 and the first impermeable layer 2 and reaches the second water-bearing layer 4.
