This printer uses the consumable providing at least the one image receiving tape, and the consumable carries the tag holding the parameter information identifying the width of the tape and the status information including the amount of the tape remaining in the consumable. The printer includes: a printing means for printing an image; a tag reader arranged to receive information from the tag via a contactless link in the form of an electromagnetic wave; and a processor arranged to (i) receive the information and control operation of the printer based on the information including the selection of a printing operation based on the identified width, and to (ii) update the status information based on the used tape via the contactless link.
