PURPOSE: To provide a contact electrifying device which can satisfactorily electrify a member to be electrified such as a photosensitive drum without no electrifying noise and which can prevent leakage of current at each end part of an electrifying member having a flexible tube or the like being in con tact with the member to be electrified when a electrifying voltage is applied to the electrifying member.
CONSTITUTION: In an electrifying roller 30 in which a core 11 formed thereon with conductive foamed sponge layers in parts near to both ends of the core 11, is located in a tube 31 constituting an electrifying part so that the tube 31 is supported by the sponge layer, the length A of an inner conductive layer 31a of the tube 31 is set to be shorter than the length B of a resistance layer 31b thereof. Accordingly, when a charge voltage is applied to the electrifying roller 30 through the intermediary of the core 11 so as to charge a photosensitive drum 1, leakage of current from the conductive layer 31a to the photosensitive drum 1 at both ends of the electrifying roller 30 can be prevented, and accordingly, the charge by the electrifying roller 30 using the tube 31 can be carried out with no leakage while preventing electrifying noise.
