Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce, as far as possible, excessive frictional wear caused by wheel slip so as to prevent a rolling stock from having its traveling performance deteriorated by applying some appropriate shape variation to the basic wheel treads of the wheels of a rolling stock so as to make the condition of the wheel in contact with a rail at two points differently from a conventional condition of the wheel in contact with the rail at one point in an initial service and also to place this two point contact state in such a condition as reducing as far as possible wear of both wheel and rail.
CONSTITUTION: When a wheel 2 and a rail are in unworn condition, a recessed channel 3x is formed around a curved part 2x formed along an area from the tread 2a to the flange inner face 2b of the wheel 2, and both ends A and B of the recessed channel 3x abut on the areas from the corner part 1x to the upper face 1a of the rail 1 to make a condition of two point contact, so that they may be set to reduce the vertical clearance between both ends A and B.
