To provide a container carrying device in which the number of retainers required can be minimized in carrying a plurality of containers such as trays and cups by means of the retainers, and in which adjustment such as positioning of them to a prescribed position can be easily conducted.

In this container carrying device, an endless chain 21 for the first half of reciprocation and an endless chain 22 for the second half of reciprocation are provided on the same plane, and the retainers 11 are placed on them to be carried without being fixed. The retainers are guided by guide members in a guide mechanism while they are carried, and they are positioned to be positioned to a stopper member in a stopper mechanism 27 provided at a prescribed position. The retainers are pushed out to change a carrying direction by a turning device, so that they are moved onto either of the endless chains. The number of the retainers required can thus be greatly decreased, and they can be positioned to the prescribed position without being affected by elongation of the chains.
