To obtain a heating/cooling container in which a heating medium and a cooling medium are replaced smoothly.
A plurality of heat transfer tubes 15a and 15b are connected with the wall of tubular headers 16 and 17, i.e., the inlet/outlet of a heating medium passage, along the axial direction. The heat transfer tubes 15a and 15b are arranged such that the flowing direction of the heating medium is basically horizontal or downward. When an upward part exists, the gradient and the length thereof are set such that the gap for passing vapor is not choked at the reservoir of liquid heating medium. The liquid heating medium is removed smoothly by the vapor medium at the time of switching the heating medium, energy loss due to remaining liquid can be reduced at the time of heating and the heat transfer tube can be protected against damage due to difference of thermal expansion. Consequently, operating cost and maintenance cost of an apparatus are reduced.
