To provide a method for measuring contamination on the inner surface of a pipe, decontaminating the pipe and recycling the pipe by exposing the inner surface of the pipe, without having to use a machine for longitudinally splitting the pipe that has a circular cross section.
A heat transfer pipe 10 of a heat exchanger contaminated with a radioactive substance is cut into appropriate lengths. Individual cut pipe pieces 10-1 to 10-n are crushed flat by a press machine. Then, folded parts 10a, 10c on both sides of the crushed pipe pieces 10-1 to 10-n are cut off with a shearing cutter. The two remaining flat plates 10e, 10f are checked for radioactivity, and are decontaminated and recycled. The folded parts 10a, 10c cut off as described are disposed of as radioactive waste by a predetermined method.
