To provide a content display device allowing a user to select a content using a hierarchically structured category along a natural movement of human eyes in a horizontal direction and to view the content.
A content displayed by the content display device 1 is associated with a hierarchical category including a large category and a middle category. A display direction detection section 12 detects whether the display direction of the display section 11 is a lateral display mode or a vertical display mode. When the display is the lateral display mode, the display control section 164 controls the display section 11 to display the large category display area, the middle category display area and the content display area in the horizontal direction in order. When the display is the vertical display mode, the display control section 164 controls the display section 11 to display the large category display area, and the content display area in the horizontal direction in order, or according to an un-displayed instruction, controls the display section 11 whether to display or not the middle category display area being overlapped with the content display area at the large category display area side.
