To overcome the problem in content identification using fingerprint, wherein an incorrect decision may be made depending on the part of partial data extracted from content data because of the similarity in the part of other contents.

Multiple partial data is extracted from the content data, and also weighing information is created which indicates whether the partial data is effective to extract feature data for specifying the contents. The fingerprint is detected by using the multiple partial data to obtain content identification information. Then, when the weighing information is added to the content identification information obtained, the content identification information having the highest evaluation is determined to be true content identification information.
