PURPOSE: To effectively manufacture a grooved slab whose quality is excellent by constituting the device of a mold having a projecting short side mold copper plate for forming a groove part on a cross section of an ingot, and a supporting roll which is provided right under the mold and supports a descending grooved slab.
CONSTITUTION: As to a short side mold copper plate 2, its thickness is thin and ≤20mm, a gap between a backup plate 6 is used as a cooling water jacket 8, and since a wide cooling hole is provided facing the surface of the copper plate, the whole surface of the plate 2 can be cooled so that even if the shape of a recessed and part is like a trapezoid or like a circular arc, molten steel in contact with the copper plate can be cooled uniformly, therefore, the molten steel in the recessed part is formed to a solidified shell of nearly uniform thickness, an end face defect is not generated and an accident such as breakout, etc., from the recessed part is not generated. On the other hand, by using a short side supporting roll device with a flange, a solidified shell of uniform thickness is formed in a short side ingot having a recessed part like a trapezoid or like a circular arc, which is supported by a strong short piece supporting roll device, therefore, abnormal bulging is not generated.
