PURPOSE: To decrease the variance in the temp. of a casting ingot and to prevent generation of a defective product with belt wheel type continuous casting by performing continuous casting in the state in which the length of a belt, the contact moving length of the belt and a casting mold and the thickness of the belt satisfy the specific equation.
CONSTITUTION: Continuous casting is performed in the state in which the length l2m of a metallic endless belt 3, the contact moving length l1m of the belt 3 and a water cooled casting mold 8 and the thickness (t)mm of the belt 3 satisfy the equation l2/(t1/2.l1)≥3.5mm-1/2 with a method of moving the belt 3 in contact partly with the outside circumferential surface of a rotary wheel 1 for casting provided with a hollow groove 2 on the circumferential surface to form the mold 8, pouring a molten Al or Al alloy 10 into the mold 8 from one end thereof and removing continuously a casting ingot 11 from the other end. The fluctuating width of the belt temp. in the stage of casting is thus decreased. The variance in the casting ingot temp. is decreased and the generaton of a defective product is prevented.
