PURPOSE: To prevent the oxidation of a molten steel surface and to improve the quality of a casting by disposing a plate-shaped molding having a hole for an immersion nozzle in the upper part of a casting mold and casting the molten steel into the mold in the state of replacing the inside thereof with an inert gas.
CONSTITUTION: The plate-shaped molding 2 is suspended by means of iron pipe 11, wires 12, etc. prior to pouring of the molten steel. The inert gas 4 is blown through an inert gas blowing pipe 3 to fill the inside of the casting mold with the inert gas to shut off the intrusion of an oxidizing gas owing to the intrusion of air. The molten metal 7 is poured into the mold and after the molten steel level arrives at the molding 2, the molding 2 is melted by the heat of the molten steel and acts as the component effective for the lubrication between the molten steel 7 and the mold wall.
