Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the cracking at a corner part by requlating mold powder consumption within the specific range and a mold taper in the short side of a mold to be specific values or lower, at the time of casting an Nb-containing carbon steel at a casting speed in the specific range with a bending type continuous casting machine having a vertical part.
CONSTITUTION: In the high speed casting, such as ≥1.8m/min casting rate, the shortage of powder inflow is easily caused and defective lubrication between the mold and shell is caused and the frictional force acts on a solidified shell, and cracks are easily generated on the corner part in a cast slab. Then, at the time of casting the steel containing ≤0.01wt.% C, 0.005-0.050% Nb at the rate of 0.8-3.0m/min casting speed with the bending type continuous casting machine having the vertical part, the consumption of the mold powder is requlated to be 0.35-0.60kg/t-steel, and the mold taper ratio of the side in the mold is made to be ≤1.2%. By this method, the development of cracking at the corner part of the cast slab can be efficiently restrained.
