PURPOSE: To prevent the deposition of molten steel onto the mold owing to its flying and inclusion of the atmospheric air at the starting by constituting a molten metal receiving part in the slab engaging recess of a dummy bar head, by covering at least the side wall part on the mold side and pouring from the end of an immersion nozzle in said part.
CONSTITUTION: A recess 2 is formed as a slab engaging part in the contact surface 1a of a dummy bar head 1 for continuous casting with the mold. At the start of contrinous casting, molten steel is poured with the recess 2 as a molten metal receiving part, but at this time the side wall of at least the mold 3 side is covered with refractories 4 in the recess 2. The end of an immersion nozzle 5 is positioned into this molten metal receiving part and the pouring of the molten steel is started. The molten steel is first discharged into the molten metal receiving part and since splash occurs only in the molten metal receiving part, it does not fly to the side faces of the mold. After the molten steel fills the molten metal receiving part, the nozzle discharge port 5a positions perfectly below the meniscus, thus the flying of the molten metal and inclusion of the atmospheric air do not occur.
