To solve the problem that conventional techniques intended for automation of liquid separation require unavoidably a batch procedure with sample bottles for layer separation of two liquids and drawing of a layer-separated liquid and make a continuous treatment impossible.
A continuous liquid-separation apparatus consists of a diverging device. In the device, a liquid separation system 6 is constructed by forming an inlet 2 for an incoming liquid in the width side and a chamber 1 having outlets 3u and 3d for outgoing liquids in the upper and the lower side and connecting an incoming passage 4 for a liquid to the inlet 2 and outgoing passages 5u and 5d for liquids to the outlets 3u and 3d, respectively. A flow rate adjusting mechanism 7 is arranged at least on one side of the outlet passages 5u and 5d, an interface detection mechanism 8 is arranged within the chamber 1, and there is equipped a controller 11 which generates an output to adjust the flow rate by inputting a detected position of the interface within the chamber and controlling the flow rate adjusting mechanism so as to keep the interface at a predetermined position.
