To obtain the subject isocyanate continuously and in a high yield by circulating a reaction mixture of a specific amine and phosgene through a bubbling column in an organic solvent.
This method for preparing an organic isocyanate is provided by circulating a reaction mixture through a bubbling column at approximately 60-100°C temperature for reacting at least one kind primary amine (e.g.: toluylenediamine) with phosgene in the presence of an inert organic solvent (e.g.; chlorobenzene) in (100:1)-(5:1) ratio of the quantity of the circulated amine product to the quantity of the supplied amine, to obtain the objective isocyanate. Further, e.g. in an additional catalysis process by performing the reaction in a loop reactor and installing the bubbling column at the inside or the outside of the reactor, at a temperature of completely decomposing carbamic acid chloride, it is preferable to react the amine hydrochloride contained in the reaction mixture with phosgene and to contain the primary amine as a 10-50 wt.% organic solvent solution.
