Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for continuously producing a nitrile copolymer by polymerizing a nitrile monomer or copolymerizing this monomer with a comonomer in the presence of optionally a rubbery polymer, wherein a specified amount of an amine compound is added to the polymerization system to make it possible to inhibit the deposition of polymer scales on the inside wall of the polymerizer without detriment to the quality of the product and to thereby permit a long-term continuous operation.
SOLUTION: The production process comprises the step comprising continuously feeding a monomer mixture or a stock solution containing it into a polymerization apparatus composed of a plurality of polymerization tanks, polymerizing the mixture or the solution and continuously withdrawing the reaction solution after the polymerization. The copolymer is obtained by separating unreacted monomer from the reactor. The nitrile monomer used is at least one unsaturated such as acrylonitrile, and the copolymer component is a styrene, alkyl acrylate or the like. 0.01-1.0 pt.wt. compound of the formula (wherein R1 to R2 are each H, a hydroxyalkyl or an aryl (e.g. N-alkylamine) is added to 100 pts.wt. mixture containing the monomer and the copolymer.
