PURPOSE: To stabilize the quality of a water-glass fiber by introducing CO2 gas into a spinning atmosphere having a prescribed temperature and spinning water-glass in the CO2 atmosphere having a prescribed CO2 gas concentration.
CONSTITUTION: A water-glass spinning dope melted by heating with a 1st heater 8 is pressed in a cylinder 6 and extruded through a spinning nozzle 7 having a prescribed nozzle diameter into an acrylic resin pipe to effect the continuous spinning of the water-glass. At the same time, CO2 gas is continuously introduced through a gas-introducing port 14 of a drum chamber 4 to keep a nozzle part 2, a cylindrical furnace 3 and the drum chamber 4 to a CO2 atmosphere having a CO2 concentration of 100-8,000ppm. The spun water-glass fiber is brought into contact with CO2 gas in the course of passing through the CO2 gas atmosphere of 100-130°C) to instantaneously form crystals of Na2CO3 and Na2CO3.H2O on the surface of the fiber. The fiber is dried by heating with a 2nd heater 9 of the cylindrical furnace 3 and a 3rd heater 12 placed under the drum chamber 4 and wound on a winding drum 11 to obtain a water-glass fiber having stable quality and free from blister or bubble.
