Abstract:

PURPOSE: To inexpensively sweeten petroleum distillate by a catalyst with high activity and stability by separating and recirculating an alkaline phase containing the catalyst at a separation region after passing petroleum through a reaction region containing a solid filler together with the catalyst, an oxidant and an alkaline solution.

CONSTITUTION: After hydrocarbon feeding material 1 is reacted by passing through a reaction region comprising a reactor 6 containing a suitable solid filler (e.g. active carbon, etc.), and mixing with a mixture prepared by mixing a hydrocarbon feeding material 1 containing sulfuric material with a catalyst 21 and an alkaline solution supplied by air 2, water, primary or secondary alcohol 23 and tanks 21, 19, respectively, effluent is sent to a separation region 8, the alkaline phase containing alcohol and most of the solubilized catalyst is separated from the sweetened hydrocarbon phase containing small amount of alcohol. This alcohol phase is recirculated to reactor region 6 through a pipe channel 9 to recover the sweetened hydrocarbon phase by cleaning with a cleaning tower 12.
