Title:
CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION BELT, STAINLESS STEEL SHEET FOR THE BELT AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE STEEL SHEET
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2007070696
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a stainless steel sheet having high strength and excellent ductility, wear resistance and further fatigue characteristics and most suitably used as a material for a V belt for CVT (continuously variable transmission) and also to provide a V belt using the steel sheet.

A metastable austenitic stainless steel sheet is subjected to the following treatments in the order named: heat treatment where N and/or C is absorbed through the surface of the steel sheet to form only the part near the surface into a stable state of austenite and then temper rolling is performed; cold working; and surface hardening treatment. In the central part of the sheet thickness, the steel sheet has a composition consisting of ≤0.15% C, ≤0.15% N, 3.0 to 20.0% Cr, 4.0 to 13.0% Ni and the balance Fe and further satisfying C+N≤0.25% and also has a dual phase structure composed of austenite monophasique and martensite phase. In the part near the sheet surface, the steel sheet has an austenite single phase structure or a dual phase structure composed of austenite phase and <50vol.% martensite phase and has nitrides, carbides or carbonitrides precipitated independently or in the form of a mixture, and further, the amount of (C+N) in the region between the surface and a position at a depth of 10μm from the surface is made to >0.60 mass%.
