A toroidal type continuously variable transmission 47 of a double cavity type and a planetary gear mechanism 50 are combined together. When running at low speed, a low speed clutch 73 is connected to it and whole torque is transmitted through the toroidal type continuously variable transmission 47. When running at high speed, a high speed clutch 74 is connected to it and a part or a greater part of the torque is transmitted through the planetary gear mechanism 50 and a part of the torque is circulated to the toroidal type continuously variable transmission 47. The continuously variable transmission device includes excellent transmitting efficiency by such optimum combination of component elements.
