To accurately detect and correct excess charging state of operating fluid by rapid charging control in a system wherein engine output increase control and learning and correcting of rapid charging control are combined and executed in downshifting control.
In a vehicle on which the automatic transmission is mounted, it is determined whether an operating fluid charging amount by rapid charging control (rapid charging amount) is excess or not based on difference between a turbine rotation speed Nt and an engine rotation speed Ne (Nt-Ne) or a ratio (Nt/Ne) when downshifting is performed in order to generate engine brake based on deceleration request by a driver. As a result, when charging excess is detected, a control parameter of rapid charging control (rapid charging control execution time tF and/or hydraulic command value Po) is reduced and corrected so as to reduce the rapid charging amount.
