PURPOSE: To realize the running according to the acceleration and deceleration requirement of a driver by judging the requirement to acceleration of the driver on the basis of change speed of accelerator operating quantity held until signs of its positive and negative maximum values are reversed.

CONSTITUTION: The microcomputer 32 of a speed change control device 14 calculates change speed of accelerator operating quantity from the signal of an accelerator opening sensor 36, holds the change speed until signs of its positive and negative maximum values are reversed, and judges the requirement to acceleration and deceleration of a driver on the basis of this change speed. For example, even in the state where the change speed becomes zero after accelerator operation, it is judged that the acceleration requirement is continued. According to this judgment result, gear change of an automatic transmission 12, switching of a direct-coupled clutch CL, or controls of ignition period of engine, fuel injection quantity, and throttle valve opening are conducted. Hence, the running according to the acceleration and deceleration requirement of a driver can be realized.
